Small Appliance Manufacturing in Vietnam
Kettles, fans, blenders, irons and similar countertop and personal-care appliances mix a molded housing with bought-in electrical parts. That mix is exactly what a turnkey contract is built for.
What this scope usually covers
- Housings and enclosuresInjection molded plastic or stamped metal shells, usually multi-cavity tooling once volume supports it.
- Electrical componentsMotors, heating elements, PCBs, switches and cords bought in against an approved vendor list, not made in house.
- Assembly and testingLine assembly with function and safety testing before packing, at the level your destination market requires.
- Retail packagingBoxed for shelf or e-commerce, with the labeling your market requires printed on the carton, not stuck on after.
What to put in your brief
Manufacturers quote faster and closer to a final number when this is stated up front rather than found during a back and forth.
- Voltage and plug standard for your destination market (the same appliance is a different product at 120V and 230V).
- Which safety marks apply where you sell (for example UL, CE, PSE) and whether testing happens before or after the pilot run.
- Any component you cannot substitute, such as a named motor or heating element brand.
- Whether housing color and finish are fixed or need approval against a physical sample.
Where first orders go wrong
- Voltage assumed, not specifiedA quote built for one market’s voltage does not simply convert to another. Say the destination market before tooling starts.
- Safety testing added lateCompliance testing found after the pilot run means a redesign, not a fix. Ask when in the schedule the manufacturer plans to test.
- Cord and plug treated as an afterthoughtThe power cord and plug are market-specific parts with their own lead time and certification, not a stock item every factory keeps.
Questions buyers ask
Can one manufacturer make the housing and assemble the electronics?
Some run both under one roof. More often the housing is molded in house and the motor, heating element or PCB is bought in and assembled on site. Either way, it is one contract and one shipment to you.
What volume does small appliance tooling need to make sense?
It depends on cavity count and housing complexity. Say your first order and expected annual volume in the brief so the quote reflects tooling paid back over a realistic run, not a guess.
